A JAZZ SUPREME: PROGRAM OF THE 9TH EDITION
Jazz is made of colors, shades, and contrasts. The ninth edition of A Jazz Supreme promises to be a sonic explosion, crossing styles, traditions, and visions from all over the world. Under the artistic direction of pianist Simone Graziano and Fernando Fanutti, president of Musicus Concentus, the finest contemporary jazz returns to Florence this autumn with five of the most compelling projects from the Italian and international scenes. Between Sala Vanni and the Sala del Paradiso at the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo in Florence, the festival continues to build a dialogue between space and sound, between architecture and musical languages, allowing jazz to reveal itself in its most vivid and unpredictable form.
At Sala Vanni: on October 3, the festival opens with “ELEkTRA”, Camilla Battaglia’s suite inspired by archetypal female figures. On October 11, the only Italian date of Yazz Ahmed, the “high priestess of psychedelic Arabic jazz,” with a live performance blending jazz, electronics, and Bahraini roots. On October 17, ENEMY — the trio of Downes/Eldh/Maddren — takes the stage with an intense and intricate sound at the edges of contemporary jazz.
At the Sala del Paradiso, Museo dell’Opera del Duomo: on October 30, Daniele Di Bonaventura presents “Ritus”, a sonic ritual weaving sacred chants and Mediterranean dances. The festival closes on December 11 with “Nomad”, Stefano Maurizi’s solo piano project inspired by Korean artist Gwang Moku.
As in past editions, each concert at Sala Vanni is opened by performances from some of the most promising young jazz musicians in Italy: Jacopo Fagioli & Nico Tangherlini, Alessandra Diodati, and Maria Cortesi & Edoardo Ferri. A key opportunity to support emerging talent and strengthen the connection between education and artistic production.
