JAZZ PRIME 2026: THE PROGRAM OF THE 7TH EDITION
Friday, October 23, 2026 at 9:00 PM, Jazz Prime returns to Teatro Giotto in Vicchio for its seventh edition. The project, created by Musicus Concentus in collaboration with the Jazz Club of Vicchio, is dedicated to supporting and showcasing a new generation of musicians.
An evening entirely devoted to jazz and its many languages, featuring two projects entrusted to students of the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory of Florence, who will engage with the music of two central and profoundly different figures in jazz history: Kenny Wheeler and Piero Umiliani.
🕘 9:00 PM – Ten for Ken – A tentet led by Alessandro Fabbri, who also wrote the arrangements, revisits the music of Kenny Wheeler, the Canadian-born British trumpeter and a central figure in European jazz. Expansive, lyrical melodies, refined harmonies and an approach to composition that helped define a distinctive aesthetic in contemporary jazz.
🕙 10:00 PM – One Hundred Years of Piero Umiliani – To mark the centenary of his birth, students from the Conservatory’s Jazz Department, led by Dario Cecchini, pay tribute to one of its most original former students. A journey through the music of Piero Umiliani, a composer who brought jazz into cinema, television and recorded music, combining timbral research, orchestral writing and improvisational freedom.
Two different projects united by the aim of bringing young performers into direct dialogue with the history of jazz, giving them the space to reinterpret and transform its language.
