Note: in Sala Vanni an event dedicated to Butch Morris
On Thursday, March 6th (at 6:00 PM), the “Note” series returns to Sala Vanni in Florence, curated by Ideerranti and Musicus Concentus. This new event, created in collaboration with ORT – Orchestra della Toscana, focuses on the figure of the American horn player, composer, and conductor Butch Morris, known for developing and progressively refining a method of “conducted improvisation” (Conduction), described in the book The Art of Conduction by Lawrence D. “Butch” Morris (Editrice Musicale Italiana – LIM 2024), with an Italian version curated by Daniela Veronesi.
The talk, moderated by Neri Pollastri, collaborator of Musica Jazz, Il Giornale della Musica and All About Jazz Italia, will feature Daniela Veronesi and Marco Ortolani, who was the First Clarinet of the ORT – Orchestra della Toscana from 1985 to 2022, and who participated in concerts conducted by Butch Morris in Italy.
The talk will also be an opportunity to bring back memories of Butch Morris’s three concerts with the ORT – Orchestra della Toscana, held in February 1996 in collaboration with Musicus Concentus at the Teatro Puccini in Florence, the Teatro degli Animosi in Carrara and the Church of S. Domenico in Pistoia. A unique experience from which was born a double CD entitled “Holy Sea” Conductions 57 58 59 published by Splasc(H) Records: further evidence of a rare and surprising event.
During the event, with free entrance, video and archive images will be shown. Participants under the age of 25 will be given a free copy of the book.
