Studio Murena is an eclectic hip-hop group with strong roots that sink into jazz and prog. The group, initially formed inside the Milan Conservatory in the Jazz and electronic classrooms, is composed of Matteo Castiglioni (keyboards), Giovanni Ferrazzi (electronics), Maurizio Gazzola (bass), Amedeo Nan (guitar), Marco Falcon ( battery) and Carma (voice). Since 2018, the group has had the opportunity to participate in the JazzMi, Jazz on the road and MusicalZOO festivals, in may 2019 they open “The comet is coming” concert at Santeria in Milano, for Jazz_Re:found and Electropark Festival, they also won the “Pending lips Festival 2019” and “Volvo x Jazzmi” contest in June 2019.
In the summer of 2018 [in trio] they published the instrumental album Crunchy Bites, a work composed focused on the dialogue between jazz and electronics and sound_collages. With the entry of Amedeo Nan (electric guitar) and Marco Falcon (drums), the project finds a balance that recalls the founders of the Radical Stuff scene, while recontextualized in the contemporary electronic and digital context. Lorenzo “Carma” Carminati, the rapper who joined the lineup, however, is the biggest element of novelty on Studio Murena (2021), an album that boldly pushes toward asymmetrical, atmospheric and intimate funk-jazz and even fusion. Thanks to Virgin’s support, WadiruM (2023) broadens the audience without retreating on style, which is indeed enriched with heterogeneous variations on fusion and numerous yet all-researched guest appearances (Ghemon, Paolo Fresu, Laila Al Habash).
