Called by writer Geoff Dyer on the New York Times “the greatest trio on Earth”, The Necks are one of the great cult bands of Australia. Chris Abrahams (piano), Tony Buck (drums), and Lloyd Swanton (bass) conjure a chemistry together that defies description in orthodox terms.
Featuring lengthy pieces which slowly unravel in the most mesmerising fashion, frequently underpinned by an insistent deep groove, the eighteen albums by The Necks stand up to re-listening time and time again. The deceptive simplicity of their music throws forth new charms on each hearing. Not entirely avant-garde, nor minimalist, nor ambient, nor jazz, the music of The Necks is possibly unique in the world today.
Opening act: ARIEL TRICOMI
Ariel Tricomi, a 22-year-old jazz pianist, is a young promise on the Italian music scene. Born in Bologna in 2002 into a family of musicians, he began his career studying classical percussion, but soon became passionate about piano and jazz. He is currently perfecting his skills at the Siena Jazz Academy. After performing at the Cala Gonone Jazz Festival with his quartet, he will offer a unique combination of improvisation and arrangements of jazz standards in this solo piano concert.
