Originally from Shiretoko, Japan, but based in London, Hatis Noit has captured the attention of the music media and the public for her emotional performances that combine music with photography and art. Her eclectic talent has led her to perform at Europe’s most prestigious festivals and to collaborate with internationally renowned artists such as director David Lynch, producer Rick Rubin and vibraphonist Masayoshi Fujita.
Deeply emotional, insightful and avant-garde, Hatis Noit’s music is driven by her visceral voice and is influenced by a wide range of vocal styles: from opera to pop, from Bulgarian and Gregorian chants to Japanese folklore, as even her name, which means “lotus flower stem,” suggests.
Following Illogical Dance, an EP released in 2018, Hatis Noit released her debut album, Aura, on Erased Tapes in June 2023. The title was inspired by German philosopher Walter Benjamin, who used the term to describe the fundamental essence of art. Recorded in Berlin and mixed by Marta Salogni, the record took shape during the pandemic, when Noit and producer Robert Raths decided to amplify the recordings in a church, capturing a live atmosphere.
