In collaboration with Nutida Festival (Stazione Utopia) and Musicus Concentus, on Saturday, February 22nd at the Padiglione Cavaniglia of the Fortezza da Basso (at 10:00 p.m.), DIF presents the world premiere of Calimala | Disclosure Platform, an immersive experience that blends music, images, and movement. The performance includes a 45-minute ambient live set, selected and performed live by Studio Batsumi from London, and a visual show created specifically for the music and performed live by Silvia Belà.
For the last 15 minutes of the choreography, Studio Batsumi has composed an original piece in collaboration with French guitarist and producer Maxime Obadia, who will join on stage to close the performance, accompanied by electric guitars. The show will be further enriched by original choreography created by the DanzAutori selected through a dedicated call by a jury consisting of: Sveva Berti (Director of Compagnia CCN/Aterballetto), Pablo Girolami (Choreographer and Director of the IVONA company), Francesco Volpe (Artistic Director of The Gala at Danzainfiera), Gaia Bianchi (Artistic Coordinator of Calimala | Disclosure Platform).
Calimala | Disclosure Platform is an original music and dance production that explores the parallelism between the Florentine merchants, who purchased fabrics and textiles from all over Europe to resell them at fairs from East to West after intricate and secret processes of dyeing and softening, and today’s digital musicians, who, drawing from the pioneering techniques of 1940s musique concrète and 1960s Jamaican music, have expanded the process of extracting rhythmic and melodic elements from musical sources of others and re-manipulating them to create a completely new musical universe.
