Loraine James is a London-based artist and producer and one of the most significant figures in contemporary electronic music. Raised in North London, she has developed a distinctive language that combines structured composition, improvisation, and experimentation, drawing on influences ranging from IDM and ambient to jazz and more radical forms of electronic music. Alongside her work under her own name, Loraine James has developed Whatever The Weather, an alias conceived as a more intimate and atmospheric research space.
Within this project, she minimizes song form and traditional rhythmic structures, favoring improvisation, timbral layering, field recordings, and an extensive use of analog hardware. Tracks are titled according to an instinctive perception of their “emotional temperature,” allowing meaning to remain fluid and mutable over time. Whatever The Weather II is the second album released by Loraine James under this alias. Compared to the debut, the record unfolds in a warmer, more open climate and develops as a carefully sequenced continuous flow in which ambient textures, irregular rhythms, and sonic collage coexist in balance. The result is a coherent and immersive work that confirms Loraine James’s ability to move between compositional rigor and expressive freedom.
