Antonella Ruggiero is an italian singer famous for her great vocal range, which allows her to switch from pop to opera, passing through all genres of classical, popular and contemporary music. Voice and founder of Matia Bazar, after leaving the group she began a prolific solo career, including some projects focused on sacred music.
Sacrarmonia is a project developed by the singer with Arkè String Quartet, a string quartet that combines a classical background with the multiple languages of jazz, pop and avant-garde music: in addition to nearly 200 concerts with Antonella Ruggiero, they have played with Trilok Gurtu, Stefano Bollani, Enrico Pieranunzi, Rita Marcotulli, Samuele Bersani and Tullio De Piscopo.
This exceptional ensemble will be joined by the Cappella Musicale della Cattedrale di Firenze direct by M° Michele Manganelli, reconstituted in 2012 by the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore with the purpose of forming a Choir specialized in performing the repertoire of sacred music to accompany the most important liturgical celebrations. It currently also holds concerts and participates in festivals in twinning with other Chapels of the major European Cathedrals.
Sacrarmonia is a collection of famous and celebrated hymns, but also of newly blossomed prayers and quiet, intense songs meant to call to a different idea of music than the one that has prevailed in recent years: an idea of serenity, of inner clarity. This is not a project that has suddenly fallen from the sky and taken on as a foreign body compared to the music recorded to date: Antonella Ruggiero has heard these sounds grow over the years and finds a continuity between many of her “profane” songs from her most recent repertoire and these “sacrarmonies,” a sound project that opens up to the horizons of the world and nature. Antonella Ruggiero’s “sacrharmonies” are a journey without limits and barriers, from the Ave Maria of our tradition to the “Misa Criolla” and the “Missa Luba”; and a journey through time, “to read the new millennium looking for hidden treasures to be recovered.
