Maurizio Carucci is the voice, leader, and founding member of Ex-Otago, a band active since 2002 that has made history in Italian indie pop music, also taking part in the 69th Sanremo Festival. With six albums released, the band has stood out for its ability to tell stories of everyday life, feelings, and relationships, blending lighthearted themes with deeper reflections. Carucci, in addition to being the lead singer, is also the author of many of the band’s songs, which deal with themes such as love, nostalgia, and the challenges of modern life—always with a sincere and at times ironic style. This style can also be found in his solo debut album Respiro (2022) and in his book Non esiste un post al mondo (“There Is No Place in the World”), published by HarperCollins in 2024.
The show Non esiste un posto al mondo – halfway between reading, recital, and concert – is structured around three narrative moments that alternate throughout the performance. Diary: the narrator’s voice recounts the journey described in the book, a hilarious and desperate quest for something that always seems to be missing and impossible to find. Oneiric: the narrator’s voice drifts into reflections on the environment, food, and the author’s past. Nocturne: the moment when Carucci performs his own songs and those of Ex-Otago on piano.
