JAMES BRANDON LEWIS TRIO
Sunday, March 8, 2026
Teatro Metastasio (Prato), h. 21:00
James Brandon Lewis // tenor saxophone
Josh Werner // bass
Warren “Trae” Crudup III // drums
Born in 1983, James Brandon Lewis is now widely regarded as one of the leading figures of the new American jazz scene—its most vital and fearless strand—carrying forward the legacy of masters such as John Coltrane, Archie Shepp, and Albert Ayler. He made his recording debut in 2014 and has released sixteen albums to date. The New York Times has described him as «a bearer of a saxophonic language rooted in a tradition that runs from Sonny Rollins to David S. Ware.»
Rollins himself has on several occasions praised the young colleague, an innovative soloist who is nonetheless deeply aware of the tradition of the great masters of the past. This year, Lewis also triumphed in the annual DownBeat Readers Poll, where he was named both Best Tenor Saxophonist and Artist of the Year. His current Live Trio features electric bassist Josh Werner and drummer Warren “Trae” Crudup III.
