Born in Milan in 1990, Camilla Battaglia first pursued writing, journalism, and philosophy, until a chance studio session at 19 led to her debut with the Renato Sellani Trio (JOYSPRING, 2010), marking a turning point. After studying philosophy, she graduated in jazz vocals from Siena Jazz University and joined the European Jazz Master program, living and studying in Copenhagen, Berlin, and Amsterdam.

Her musical path blends improvisation, composition, and experimentation. Key projects include: Tomorrow-2more Rows of Tomorrows (Top 100 albums of 2016 by JazzIT), EMIT: Rotator Tenet (3½ stars on DownBeat), Perpetual Possibility (supported by Italia Music Export), CÀLÓR (2023, inspired by Berlin’s scene), and ELEkTRA (2024), a large-ensemble work awarded Best Album of the Year by Soundwall.

ELEkTRA is a project born from multiple sources of inspiration: from the urgency of current social issues to literature and, of course, music. It is a suite divided into five parts, each dedicated to a female archetypal figure drawn from mythology, ancient history, or literature. The specific choice of these characters revolves around a single question: what has changed now? The music is composed with the complexity of that very question in mind, as well as the depth of each character’s personality. In shaping the sound, Camilla Battaglia chose an ensemble with a timbral range that would have a strong identity in both the acoustic and electronic realms.

In apertura: JACOPO FAGIOLI E NICO TANGHERLINI “BILICO”

Bilico is the Italian jazz duo composed of trumpeter Jacopo Fagioli and pianist Nico Tangherlini. Their original music, marked by a high level of expressiveness, can be described as modern chamber jazz. The name of the project is inspired by the concept of being in bilico — that is, existing in a state of unstable balance. This theme of precariousness is interpreted as a sense of suspension and a continuous search for a temporary equilibrium.

Such a fragile balance allows both the listener and the musicians themselves to explore the creative potential that arises from a constantly evolving action. The strong expressiveness of their music is the element that best defines the project, clearly emerging in both their composed pieces and in the many moments of improvisation.
