Howie B e DJ Spookie, due degli artisti icona della dj culture, sono i protagonisti di “Pitti Jun-E-motion”, concerto-evento in programma giovedì 23 giugno 2005 (ore 21.30) alla Stazione Leopolda di Firenze.
“Pitti Jun-E-motion” è un nuovo progetto di Pitti Immagine dedicato alla musica contemporanea e alle sue interpretazioni più sperimentali, realizzato in collaborazione con Stazione Leopolda srl, con la direzione artistica e la produzione di Musicus Concentus e la partecipazione del nuovo marchio Hvana del gruppo Fornari.
Gli spazi dell’ex-stazione ottocentesca ospitano, in un’unica serata, le sonorità camaleontiche del celebre dj e produttore Howie B e la performance per immagini e colonna sonora di DJ Spooky, musicista e teorico della scena electro più evoluta. Un’atmosfera deframmentata per un progetto di allestimento speciale: tubi bianchi, rifrangenti, sospesi alla struttura metallica di copertura, evocano la frantumazione del tetto e richiamano la rottura degli schemi musicali tradizionali.
“Pitti Jun-E-Motion” sceglie la musica elettronica come chiave di lettura della nuova cultura musicale, come un insieme di strumenti, metodologie e sonorità capaci di mixare il passato e il futuro. Ma l’elettronica rappresenta anche uno dei luoghi di ricerca privilegiati per la commistione dei linguaggi creativi della contemporaneità – musica, arti visive, design – e per la definizione dei comportamenti e delle tendenze legate alla moda dei giovani. E l’attività creativa di Howie B ne è un esempio: il dj di Glasgow è infatti anche l’ideatore dei messaggi ironici e provocatori della collezione Hvana, che verrà presentata in anteprima a Pitti Uomo n. 68.

Howie B and Dj Spooky, two of the dj culture icons artists will be the stars of “Pitti Jun-E-motion”, a concert-event scheduled for Thursday 23 June 2005 (9:30 p.m.) at the Stazione Leopolda in Firenze.
“Pitti Jun-E-motion” is a new Pitti Immagine project dedicated to contemporary music and its most experimental interpretations. It is a Pitti Immagine production, in cooperation with Stazione Leopolda srl, Musicus Concentus for the artistic and production direction, sponsored by the Hvana brand of the Fornari group.
The nineteenth century former railroad station will be the setting for a unique evening with the chameleonic sounds of the famous dj and producer Howie B, and the performance-by-images and sound track of DJ Spooky, musician and theoretician of the most advanced electro-scene. With a specially designed setting that creates a defragmented atmosphere – reflective white tubes hanging from the metal ceiling structures are randomly arranged to evoke the fragmentation of the roof and the break with traditional music.
“Pitti Jun-E-Motion” selected electronic music as the key to reading the new musical culture – a group of instruments, methods and sounds that mix past and future. Electronics, however, offer one of the prime research areas for mixing today’s creative languages: music, the visual arts and design – and for defining the trends and behaviors related to the world of the young. Howie B’s creative work is just one part: in fact, the Glasgow dj designed the Hvana collection wich will be presented for the first time at Pitti Uomo n. 68.

DJ Spooky “Rebirth Of A Nation”

“DJ Spooky that Subliminal Kid”, al secolo Paul D. Miller, è uno dei protagonisti delle più recenti cronache artistiche newyorkesi. Artista concettuale, musicista, scrittore, si è imposto per una sintesi visionaria di tradizione afroamericana e sensibilità contemporanea.
I suoi lavori sono stati presentati alla Whitney Biennal, alla Biennale di Venezia, al Ludwig Museum di Colonia. Ha all’attivo una lunga serie di progetti e collaborazioni, da Iannis Xenakis a Ryuichi Sakamoto, dai Wu-Tang Clan ai Sonic Youth.
DJ Spooky presenterà “Rebirth Of A Nation”, una riflessione su un discusso classico del cinema (“Nascita di una nazione”) firmato D. W. Griffith, dove agirà mixando in diretta le immagini e le sue musiche originali composte per il film.

“DJ Spooky that Subliminal Kid”, off-stage Paul D. Miller, has been starring in recent New York art reviews. Conceptual artist, musician and writer, he has earned a place through his visionary synthesis of Afro-American traditions and contemporary sensitivities.
His works have been exhibited at the Whitney Biennial, the Biennale di Venezia and the Ludwig Museum in Cologne. His long résumé is filled with projects and joint undertakings with names that go from Iannis Xenakis to Ryuichi Sakamoto, from Wu-Tang Clan to Sonic Youth.
DJ Spooky will present “Rebirth Of A Nation”, reflections on a movie classic, D.W. Griffith’s Birth of a Nation, where he will perform live, mixing images with the original music he composed for the film.

Brian Eno, Björk, U2, Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead, sono alcune delle stelle della musica d’oggi che hanno trovato un collaboratore prezioso e insostituibile nel produttore e dj Howie B. Per loro Howie B ha elaborato vorticose scenografie musicali, mescolando stili e campionando le fonti più disparate: dub, hip hop e musica noise, low - fi e drum’n’bass, techno e cool jazz.
Il risultato è un marchio inconfondibile, che si rivela quando Howie B siede dietro ai suoi giradischi e computer, come quando gli U2 lo hanno voluto in tour come “support dj”.
Scozzese di Glasgow, ma di base a Londra, Howie B è uno dei talenti più versatili della nuova scena elettronica, attivo anche come designer e stilista, con la collezione HVANA.

For them, this eclectic and invaluable producer and dj created whirling, swirling musical backdrops, mixing styles and drawing on the most disparate sources: dub, hip hop and noise music noise, lo-fi and drum’n’bass, techno and cool jazz.
The result is a distinctive, unmistakable sound that comes out in full when Howie B sits at his console – the way U2 wanted him on tour as the “supporting dj.”
A Scotsman from Glasgow, now based in London, Howie B is one of the most versatile talents on the new electronic scene and works actively as a designer – with HVANA menswear collection.
